Every mom everywhere will probably say the same thing, but I feel like I just found out that I was pregnant with my little guy and he is now officially one year old! Some people call that toddler age? I refuse to admit that he’s a toddler though! He’s my baby, and he’s probably going to stay “my baby” until he’s in his 20s ๐, and probably after that! But you better believe for his first birthday I had to DIY all the things! So here’s a few photos of the small party we threw at the park for him and close family.
He is my little wild one, so we had a Where the Wild Things Are themed party. I couldn’t just buy an outfit that was themed, I wanted to make him something unique and so I designed the fabric, talked with a printer on Instagram and sent off my design, it took about a month to receive it and then I was able to sew his outfit from it! The fabric is super soft and stretchy Cotton Lycra, and I absolutely adore how the design turned out! I switched up what I was going to make a hundred times, and finally landed on the Hipster Romper by Elemeno Patterns on Etsy. It was one of the first patterns that I bought for my little guy when I started sewing, and I really love the harem style pants, the drop armscye, and the buttons on one shoulder. It’s just such a fun little hipster outfit! Plus it is partially lined so it’s really cozy for him. The only modification that I made was to add a snap placket for easy diaper changes; if his outfits don’t have a snap placket, they don’t get worn! Too much effort on mom’s partโฆ
I designed all of the cut files in Adobe illustrator for my Cricut, including the lettering for the banners and his cake topper. The cake topper has a tiny Max and a crown, and textured white card stock over black for a fun dimension! I picked up a carrot cake from Albersons and he loved it! I bought some of the precut cotton quarters from Joann’s and sliced them into strips to make this banner, and found a stretchy white fabric that I ended up using for the wild one center piece, cutting the letters in heat transfer vinyl on my Cricut, and then heat pressed.
A friend of mine’s cousin is starting a balloon business (check out her SUPER cute instagram – Southern Pop Designs!), so I had her create the black and white balloon banner that we hung in the park pavilion. I stapled up white backdrop linens and then we hung the balloons in front of it, and I picked up the “wild one” gold balloon lettering from a local party store. I can’t believe how perfect it turned out! Word for the wise – those gold letters are NOT user-friendly, half of them were sealed shut or torn; I’d recommend blowing them up a day before to make sure they all work!! We were able to “fix” the “broken” ones with tape, so it worked out in the end!
A friend of mine let me borrow her teepee which was PERFECT for a little ground spot to open presents.
He had a fantastic party with his loved ones, and mama is so very proud of the wonderful person he is becoming already!
